Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdellatif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, welcomed Dr. Hani Suweilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, on an inspection visit to one of the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s factories.
Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdellatif and Dr. Hani Suweilam toured the headquarters of the Digital Manufacturing Center (DMC) within the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s Engine Factory, in the presence of Major General Eng. AbdelRahman AbdelAzim Othman, Director General of the Arab Organization for Industrialization; Major General Eng. Gamal Ramadan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Engine Factory; Engineer Ayman Nadar, Head of the Irrigation Authority; Engineer Mohamed AbdelSamie, Head of the Drainage Authority; Engineer Morad Ghali, Head of the Mechanics and Electricity Authority; and a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
During the visit, they were briefed on all the capabilities available at the Engine Factory for the production of all pumps used in drinking water and sanitation projects, particularly the pumps required for sewage pumping stations in the villages of the “Decent Life” Presidential Initiative.
They also toured the various sections of the Digital Manufacturing Center, the modern systems used in the manufacturing process, quality control, and testing of components used in manufacturing, as well as the required manufacturing time for the pumps.
During the visit, Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdellatif explained all efforts made to localize the pump industry and strengthen the industrial base at the engine factory in accordance with the latest international quality standards, highlighting the available capabilities and modern equipment used at the Digital Manufacturing Center, with the aim of meeting the needs of the Ministry of Water’s projects and Irrigation’s projects for various types of pumps.
During the visit, Major General Engineer Mokhtar Abdel-Latif outlined all efforts being made to localize the pump industry and expand the industrial base at the engine factory in accordance with the latest international quality standards, highlighting the available capabilities and modern equipment used at the Digital Manufacturing Center, with the aim of meeting the needs of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation’s projects for various types of pumps.
He added that the goal of establishing the center is to increase production capacity and manufacturing capabilities for pumps to meet the needs of the local market, as well as to export abroad in accordance with Egypt’s Vision for Sustainable Development 2030.
Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdellatif praised the significant cooperation between the factories and companies of the Arab Organization for Industrialization and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the ongoing projects currently being implemented, He emphasized that the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s engine factory possesses all the advanced manufacturing capabilities needed to deepen and increase local manufacturing rates, localize technology, and promote the “Made in Egypt” slogan in the pump manufacturing sector, while meeting all the needs of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and participating in the implementation of various national projects.
He noted the Arab Organization for Industrialization’s commitment to the importance of expediting the construction of the stations and delivering them on schedule, as well as providing periodic maintenance services with the required efficiency and the highest quality standards.
In his remarks during the visit, Prof. Dr. Hani Suweilam greeted Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdellatif and all the Authority’s staff, expressing his delight at the outstanding capabilities he observed at the Arab Organization for Industrialization as a successful national entity.
For his part, Dr. Hani Suweilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, noted that the ministry is currently transitioning to the second generation of the Egyptian Water System 2.0, This generation relies on modern technology and involves a comprehensive process of developing and modernizing the water system’s infrastructure, such as the rehabilitation and maintenance of pumping stations, as well as the rehabilitation of water facilities that include certain mechanical components—such as gates—which the Ministry seeks to provide by relying more heavily on local manufacturing.
Regarding the rehabilitation and maintenance of pumping stations, Dr. Suweilam noted that Egypt’s water system includes approximately 600 pumping stations, which the Mechanical and Electrical Authority operates, maintains, and takes the necessary steps to rehabilitate or replace, This is in addition to the new pumping stations being delivered to the Ministry. He added that, in light of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to monitor the rehabilitation and maintenance of pumping stations, the Ministry has prepared a strategic plan for these stations nationwide to ensure continuous monitoring and evaluation of their condition.
Dr. Suweilam expressed the Ministry’s desire to cooperate with the Arab Organization for Industrialization in the field of supplying pumping station components and spare parts, relying on the Organization’s distinguished capabilities and in support of local manufacturing, to reduce dependence on foreign imports, lower costs, and conserve foreign currency.
He highlighted the importance of developing a short-term plan that includes all areas of cooperation that can be initiated in the near future, as well as preparing a plan to build a long-term partnership between the Ministry and the Authority through which all plant components would be manufactured locally, while working to transfer foreign expertise to the Arab Organization for Industrialization and strengthening joint cooperation between the Ministry and the AOI in the field of training and enhancing the competence of technical staff and workers in the Mechanical and Electrical Department.
