Follow-up on the latest developments in the implementation plan of the waste management system in the governorates

Major General Mahmoud Sharawy, Minister of Local Development, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Engineer Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of State for Military Production, and Lieutenant-General Abdel Moneim Al-Terras, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, held an expanded meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Local Development, where the meeting followed up on the latest developments regarding the executive plan for the municipal solid waste management system in various The governorates of the Republic, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, the meeting was attended by a number of leaders of the three ministries and the Authority.

 

During the meeting, the latest developments in the executive position of the implementation of the new waste system at the level of infrastructure, operation and institutional support programs, and the work that has been implemented, as well as discussing some technical offers submitted by cleaning companies to carry out collection, transportation, cleaning and sweeping streets and public facilities in Port Said and Ismailia governorates, and what will be done Implementation of projects during the current fiscal year.

 

It was also noted during the meeting that about 80% of the infrastructure of the waste system in Cairo has been implemented, from intermediate stations and factories, and 6 sanitary landfills have been handed over in a number of governorates, including the Farafra, Kharga and Dakhla landfills in the New Valley, Sanur and Susta landfills in Beni Suef, and Kom Oshim in Fayoum, In addition to the completion of the delivery of a number of fixed and mobile intermediate stations in a number of governorates, including (Mansha’at Nasser, Mokattam and Port Said Street) in Cairo governorate, Youssef El-Seddik in Fayoum, Ibrahimia and Derb Negm in Sharqia, as well as Kafr El-Dawwar and Damanhour in Beheira, and Nasser station in Ben Suef, and with regard to recycling factories, Three lines are under construction in Dar al-Salaam in Sohag and Tuna al-Gabal in Minya. Work has also been done to develop the Mahalla factory in Gharbia, and the accumulation of accumulations at the site is continued to be raised by the Arab Organization for Industrialization.

 

For his part, Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy stressed that the government is racing against time to implement solid waste system projects, which include the establishment of safe sanitary landfills to assist in the safe disposal of waste, in addition to closing random dumps to eliminate the phenomenon of indiscriminate burning of waste, as well as establishing fixed and mobile intermediate stations to raise the efficiency of the collection and transportation process. Waste and establishment and development of processing and recycling plants.

 

Shaarawy pointed out that last month witnessed the actual start of new cleaning companies to work in the eastern and western regions of Cairo. And Ismailia to restore the aesthetic and civilized form of the Canal cities.

 

 

Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy stressed the need for the new contracts in Port Said and Ismailia to include specific mechanisms and elements to ensure the quality of services provided by companies to obtain citizens’ satisfaction, improve the level of street cleanliness and automatic sweeping, and implement the home garbage collection system in a good way.

 

Shaarawy stressed the existence of permanent cooperation and coordination between the ministries of local development, environment and military production to implement the programs of the new waste system and work to bring about a major change in the level of hygiene in the various governorates of the Republic.

For his part, Lieutenant-General Abdel Moneim Al-Terras, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, stressed the implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding raising the efficiency of the waste system and its safe disposal, and taking measures to preserve the environment, through a new system for integrated waste management.

 

He added that the Arab Industrialization is participating in the implementation of the integrated system for the safe disposal of municipal waste in cooperation with the ministries of local development, environment and military production, pointing to the deepening of the local manufacturing of many equipment, benefiting from advanced global experiences in this field, taking into account the design of the system in a manner that takes into account all environmental conditions and appearance. civilized

For her part, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, stressed the need to immediately start implementing the new municipal solid waste system, especially in Port Said and Ismailia governorates, with the importance of adopting a clear methodology for the plan to integrate the informal sector into the waste system in the two governorates, which will start working soon, noting that the integration of This sector in the waste management system clearly expresses the state's interest in this sector, working to legalize its conditions, granting it adequate health and social insurance and benefiting from the services it provides to the state.

 

Fouad also stressed the need to develop a plan to meet the challenges that may occur during the implementation of the system in the two governorates, stressing the need to coordinate with the governorates of Port Said and Ismailia in order to identify these obstacles and develop feasible solutions.

 

The Minister of Environment explained that the largest part of the success of any contract in the waste system is to regulate the relationship between private sector companies, the governorate and the informal sector, pointing to the need to hold meetings with the informal sector before starting to approve contracts to overcome all difficulties in this regard.

 

Engineer / Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of State for Military Production, explained that the ministry is working within the waste system in establishing waste treatment and recycling factories, where the ministry has established (3) factories for treatment and recycling, within the first phase of the system in Dar al-Salam in Sohag governorate, and Tuna al-Jabal in Minya governorate, and Mahalla in Gharbia Governorate, as well as raising the efficiency of (6) lines in Diffra in Gharbia Governorate, as Minister “Morsi” clarified that the ministry is working on implementing a number of waste recycling and treatment plants within the district.
